X Server

Postby linker3000 » Wed Jul 20, 2011 12:11 am

Any chance that an X Server will be added to the list of connection types - something based on Xming (http://www.straightrunning.com/XmingNotes/), perhaps?

That would make the app totally perfect for my world!

Thanks

Xming seems like it is a server not a client. I may be wrong. Are you looking for a X11 forwarding client? A server would be out of the scope of mRemoteNG.

The naming of servers and clients in X Windows is backwards from what one would first think. The program that runs on the computer with the screen is called the server. The programs that run that are displayed on that screen are called clients.

Xming does not appear to be a control that can be embedded within another application. That is what would be needed to add X Windows support to mRemoteNG. This is an excellent idea, but we need more developers to be able to do something like this.

This is possible;
create a putty connexion that enable X11 forwarding then choose it in remoteNG; however this is not embbed within mremoteNG and could simply be added by adding x11 forwarding to the default putty settings and named "Default X11 Fwd" for example...
