Idea Multiple Configuration

Postby koma85 » Tue Apr 16, 2013 8:06 am

Hi!
As a system Administrator I really appreciate the Idea od having an SQL Database where store and condivide my configuration with my Team.
But there is an huge problem using SQL.
In most cases we have Vpn and/or we are not in LAN with the SQL Server so we cannot use our beloved mRemoteNG.
I was thinking about two possibilities.
1°) Making a cache copy/read only of the configuration to use the informations offline (perhaps protected with password?)
2°) Make a second level/separated set of configuration avaiable offline and local only.

This would make a big step forward on the distribution of the program in the Middle/Enterprise section

Maybe is just a stupid idea...

That's a good idea. How would conflict resolution work though? Would the configuration be read-only while you are offline? If not, and you made changes, how would mRemoteNG know which changes to keep once you are reconnected?

+1 for this, I would also find this an excellent development.
If this is not possible in the short term (the automatic sync to local settings) it would be great to fall back to XML settings.
At the moment mRemoteNG hangs if the SQL database is not available.

For conflict resolution, a prompt asking if you want to upload any local config changes (maybe a list of changes with tick boxes) to the SQL database would be great.
Or an option to set (at a global level) the option of newest change wins. Practically speaking, it would seem the person that was last working with the remote connection would have the most accurate details

Thanks :)
Richard
